For a pillow of 40×40 cm I’ve used 64 stitches of a yarn (100 grams) that fits a 6mm knitting needle.
Cast on in multiples of 2 and add 8 extra stitches for the outside edges (4 stitches on each side, or adjust this to your needs).
Row 1: knit all stitches
Row 2: purl all stitches
Row 3: knit all stitches
Row 4: purl all stitches
Row 5: knit 4 stitches, *take yarn to front, knit 2 stitches, take 3rd yarn on your right needle over the 2 knitstitches*, repeat *-*(= bamboo stitch) until 4 stitches are left and knit those.
Row 6: purl all stitches
Repeat row 5 & 6 until you’ve reached a square with the bamboo stitch. From there on you knit 1 row and purl 1 row until your work is twice as long as it is wide. Then cast off.
Fold your knitting, so that you have the wrong side on the outside. Stitch the sides together, but leave a gap for the filling.
Reverse your knitting, so that the right side is out. Put your pillow filling in and close the pillow by stitching that last side.
Enjoy knitting, Jacolien
